Saturday Revelry

I had a gorgeous Saturday.

Working too many hours during the weekdays is wreaking havoc on my holiday spirits. Thank heavens for delightful friends, scrumptious foods, riveting books, feel-good-movies, decadent Peppermint Dark Chocolate Latte (what a mouthful!), and everything red. Life is absolutely beautiful, my lovelies!

How’s your weekend so far?

Brainy Girl

You Are a Brainy Girl!

Whether you’re an official student or a casual learner, you enjoy hitting the books.

You know a little bit about everything, and you’re always dying to know more.

For a guy to win your heart, he’s got to share some of your intellectual interests.

A awesome book collection of his own doesn’t hurt either!

Love’s Philosophy

What is love?

The word alone is enough to evoke ineffable thoughts and emotions. It has been immortalized by poets and mythological gods. It possesses protean magnitude, enough to conquer someone’s soul. It is simple. It is complex. It can be tumultuous to rival the raging storm. It can be hypnotizing as the glowing embers of a dying fire.

I always think of love as a silent ghost that creeps on you — catching you unaware of its presence. By the time you realize you are magically captivated by its power, you have no choice but to surrender to the madness.

Percy Bysshe Shelley, one of the major contributors to English Romantic poetry, wrote a poem about love. He used nature to express the depth of a lover’s adoration for his beloved. It is a transcendent love that goes beyond the natural. Like nature, love works in mysterious ways. It captures your attention and holds you entranced. It is the breath of life that sustains a body to never lose hope and keep that loyal faith.

I can enumerate more analogies and comparisons to define love, but I believe Shelley’s Love’s Philosophy does an excellent job. Enjoy.

The Essence of a Woman's ScentThe fountains mingle with the river
And the rivers with the ocean,
The winds of Heaven mix for ever
With a sweet emotion;
Nothing in the world is single,
All things by a law divine
In one spirit meet and mingle -
Why not I with thine?

See the mountains kiss high Heaven
And the waves clasp one another;
No sister-flower would be forgiven
If it disdained its brother;
And the sunlight clasps the earth,
And the moonbeams kiss the sea -
What are all these kissings worth
If thou kiss not me?

Robert and Kristen: Twilight & Beyond

I am such a huge fan of the Twilight series and the actors who portray Edward and Bella (Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, respectively).

Twilight has managed to create a comprehensive pandemonium at every corner of the world. From crazy teens to smitten moms and grandmas, the story of Edward and Bella surely has transcended the realm of fiction.

Robert and Kristen are rumored to be enamored with each other. Many fans are hoping that there is a truth behind the notorious gossips proliferating in the media. I am one of those hopeful fans who surely will be beyond ecstatic if the story turns out to be really genuine.

I am such a dreamer. ;)

Brunettology: Robert Pattinson

It has been quite a while since I posted under this section, so I thought it would be nice to bring it back featuring Robert Pattinson or the angst-ridden beautiful vampire Edward Cullen from “Twilight”. Enjoy Robert’s pic and the video of Iron & Wine’s Flightless Bird, American Mouth below.

Twilight

I have mentioned how I obsessed I am over Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga. I feel like seventeen again whenever I read the books — I have read them again and again, and I never get tired of the undeniably riveting story.

I highly admire the idea of Edward: this dark, altruistic, and chivalrous hero that reminds me of antiquated era. I am profoundly enthralled by the notion of a timeless and selfless love that endures no matter what kind of ordeal it faces. A love that lasts forever.

I also happen to think that Robert is the perfect Edward Cullen. He portrays Edward’s inner turmoil and deep love for Bella so well. When I see a pic of Robert, Edward springs to mind that they are almost interchangeable beings. I cannot wait for the release of Midnight Sun. I hope Stephenie will finish writing it soon.

******

Quotes as Robert Pattinson: “Up until I was 12 my sisters used to dress me up as a girl and introduce me as ‘Claudia’! Twelve was a turning point as I moved to a mixed school and then I became cool and discovered hair gel.

Quotes as Edward Cullen: ”As you were sleeping, you said my name. You spoke so clearly, at first I thought you’d woken. But you rolled over restlessly and mumbled my name once more, and sighed. The feeling that coursed through me then was unnerving, staggering. And I knew I couldn’t ignore you any longer.”

Twilight

Edward: And so the lion fell in love with the lamb.
Bella: What a stupid lamb.
Edward: What a sick, masochistic lion.

Twilight

I read the 4 books — Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn — in the span of 3 days. Now, I am obsessed with Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series! I cannot get enough of Bella and Edward. ::sighs:: And of course, the movie came out yesterday and I am seeing it tonight!! I am so excited. :)

Chuck Palahniuk’s Choke

“What Denny says is that maybe the second coming of Christ isn’t something God will decide. Maybe God left it up to people to develop the ability to bring back Christ into their lives. Maybe God wanted us to invent our own savior when we were ready. When we need it most. Denny says maybe it’s up to us to create our own messiah.

To save ourselves.” ~ Victor Mancini

I heard of Chuck Palahniuk before but I did not realize that he was the author of Fight Club — you know, the one with heartthrob-turned-philanthropist Brad Pitt and the ladies man Edward Norton. Anyway, I just finished reading one of his latest novels called Choke a couple of weeks ago. I am glad I took a chance in buying this book instead of just reading it on that comfy couch at Borders.

Choke is humorously bleak, subversive, and dark. It is a twisted story about childhood trauma, sex addiction, and self-recovery. This book makes you realize that we are all addicted to something as a way of hiding from or ignoring the truth.

So if you are looking for an interesting read, I definitely recommend Choke.
